A
Green Revolution
Before the Creery Wetlands became a reserve, recreational
vehicles used the area, crushing the vegetation and compacting
the soil.
As part of the development
of the area, rubbish has been removed (including more than
20 car wrecks), the reserve has been fenced and is being
rehabilitated.
Revegetation
Compacted soil is ripped to allow the roots of
plants to find their way down to the water. The areas are
then seeded with a range of local native species or planted
with seedlings.
Fragile
Foliage
So far, six different types of samphire have been
identified on the reserve and more may be discovered as
botanists continue their studies. Boardwalks have been built
over regenerating samphire flats to provide access to visitors
without crushing the delicate plants |
