Sheoak and He-oak!

Look closely. There are lines of tiny triangular leaves encircling the needles. The attractive, weeping needles of the Swamp Sheoak (Casuarina obesa) are actually the stems of the plant.

Unlike many plants, sheoak plants are either male or female. Male plants produce tiny flowers which hold the dust-like pollen. Wind blows the pollen onto the reddish flowers of female plants which then produce small cones containing the seeds.
